Data Analytics Question

Learning Goal: I’m working on a data analytics discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

I will attach assignment instructions as well as the grading rubric 🙂 I am super stuck on this and need a complete answer and explanation if possible.

Just in case – I will include assignment directions here, I also have my source or sources that I can send to you as well to complete this…

∫Instructions: Pick one of the empirical articles that you used for the indexing assignment (you are welcome to choose another one if you do not like the ones you used for your index assignment). Pick an article that tests for differences in order to write a critique. Make sure you turn in this critique electronically through Canvas.Include your name, and article citation (reference) at the top of the page. Follow APA style guide for the reference. Structure your critique like an essay (you can consider each point below as a short paragraph like in this example Download you can consider each point below as a short paragraph like in this example), and make sure you address the following issues in your critique:

  1. What is the main thesis of the article and how is it supported by prior research (the introduction and literature review section of the article).
  2. How are the hypotheses related to your own interests? In other words, why did you decide to read this article?
  3. How was the sample selected (type of probability or nonprobability sample)? Do you see any problems with the sample in terms of being representative of the population (this is where a lot of us sometimes try to generalize from communication students to every person in the world)?
  4. How were variables for each hypothesis operationalized and measured (what were the scales, include the authors of the scales and the year)? Do you agree that the measures are reliable and valid?
  5. What do you think about the research design? Is it appropriate for the hypotheses?
    1. If the design was experimental, were participants randomly assigned to conditions? Were the manipulations of the independent variable(s) appropriate? Do they report a manipulation check?
  6. What was the statistical test used for each hypothesis? Do you agree it was the appropriate test?
  7. If several hypotheses have the same dependent variable, did the authors run a bunch of tests instead of just running one? (Running several tests increases the likelihood of type 1 error, finding something that is not in the population. For example, did they run several t-tests or ANOVAs on the same dependent variable (different hypotheses with same dependent variable) instead of just one factorial ANOVA?
  8. How are they reporting the significance levels? Are they reporting several different ones (sometimes at p < .05 and sometimes at p < .01) or are they consistent throughout? Is it clear that the significance level was established before running the tests?
  9. Briefly describe the findings (were the hypotheses supported?) and explain why they are relevant (do they have practical significance?).
  10. Based on the findings, develop a new research hypothesis which future research could test.
